Common Core
We are beginning to get into the swing of things this week. We are all learning new procedures and adjusting to the new changes of how we teach our curriculum. Many of you may have heard talk about the new Common Core and wondered what all the fuss is about. Well, basically it is a new comprehensive set of standards that all students will need to learn and be tested on by 2014. There are several websites that have quality and useful information for parents on this topic. One such resource is the PTA. This link will give you specific ways you can assist your child at home and is organized by grade level. Another great resource is the Common Core Initiative site. Here they delve into all the complexities of this educational shift and may have answers for many of your questions. If you would like to ask your questions personally you may want to stop into The Wheatlands on Curriculum Night, Tuesday, Sept. 4th at 6:30pm to hear a brief presentation on The Common Core. Even though change may seem a little unsettling at times. We all remain positive about the new standards. I truly believe it's what's best for our children. I am proud to be a part of a district that is taking a proactive approach in preparing our students for their future.
