It was a wonderful first day of school today! We spent much of our day going over procedures and establishing classroom rules. We also spent some time getting to know each other. We even talked about the importance of personal space. We will be working on vital classroom climate and procedures all week. You should begin to see more homework next week as we ease into the school year.
Speaking of homework. One of our most valuable communication tools is the assignment notebook. I expect students to write down EXACTLY what I have written on my homework board every day at closing time. Students should write down all assignments given that day even if they have already finished them. Students are instructed to bring home all assignments to be checked at home. We all know how important this is to student success. Once you have checked assignments with your son or daughter, please sign the assignment notebook so that I know you have seen it. I will check assignment notebooks for signatures every morning. Unfortunately, the consequence for an unsigned notebook is clipping down to "Think about it" on our behavior chart. Our students know that it is their responsibility to bring the assignment notebook to you at the right time for a signature. If students have missing signatures to often I will call home to make sure they are communicating with you about assignments. Again the focus here is simply to ensure that students are learning responsibility and organization. Both of which are critical to future student success.
I am so excited about creating an awesome year for your child. I have many avenues for communication. This blog, "Something to Tweet About", will act as a newsletter with interesting links and important information for parents and kids. The website will serve as a reference with important information about schedules and curriculum. Of course you can always email me at afisher0217@oswego308.org. I will respond ASAP. If you do not hear back from me within 24 hours. It means I did not receive your email. Sometimes first time emails are accidentally diverted to our spam folders. I will do my best to keep a sharp eye out to make sure this won't happen. You can also call my ext. at the school. All of this information is at the bottom of every email I send out.
I few reminders, please be sure to send your child with a water bottle and cool clothing. It is hot! We are doing our best to keep things cool but for now hydration and light clothing will help. Please complete and send the student information sheet, volunteer form, and class t-shirt order form as soon as possible.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Fisher :)
