We are getting our reading groups rolling this week. Students are excited. Each group will receive guided reading instruction to focus on comprehension and fluency. Next week we will add novel study in a literature circle format to our routine.
Students are in the process of editing their "Tuesday" stories utilizing technology. This week we will work on the writing trait of "voice" by creating first person stories from our geometry monsters perspective.
We have also begun our Words Their Way groups this week. Please keep in mind that all the groups are flexible and students may move to different groups at anytime. I will be sending home a new Home Word Work sheet for students to complete each week. It has some fun home activites to help them practice their words. I have three basic groups, yellow, green, and blue. I have set up Spelling City to assign weekly lists and activities specific to each group. Students will need to log in with their school user ID. I will send home instructions on Tuesday.
We have started unit 2 in Math today. In this unit students will learn about the use of numbers, comparing and estimating numbers. They will learn how to make a number sentence true by inserting grouping symbols, understanding place value, expanded notation, solving open number sentences and finding data landmarks such as range, median and mode.Students will also learn multidigit addition and subtraction. We have also begun our differentiation with this unit. Student will work in different groups to get the most out of the concepts.
This week we will begin our science unit on Microworlds. We will investigate microscopic creatures and learn about microscopes.
